Popular apps have been copying TikTok for some time now. For example, Snapchat, YouTube, Netflix, Instagram, and Pinterest offer similar features on their platforms. The latest app that might follow suit is Spotify – via Discover. The company is testing a vertical stream of short music videos on its iOS version TestFlight (beta) with selected users. The functionality takes advantage of the existing Cloth and aims to introduce users to new music.
Omg for the first time in how long (?), @Spotify added a FOURTH icon to its toolbar: Discover! #NewSpotify pic.twitter.com/XQL2jpkXYq

As reported by TechCrunch, Spotify is testing a Discover feature with some beta app users on iOS. This addition was first discovered through Chris Messina who tweeted a demonstration of it. If you are in the beta test, you will find a new dedicated Discover tab in the bottom navigation bar. Once you click on it, a stream of short music videos will start playing. You can scroll them vertically, add them to your favorite songs, and view the standard song info sheet.
Not only that, @Spotify Discover is essentially a streamlined version of a stream of TikTok-style vertical music videos (probably using their canvas format) that you can like or ignore.#NewSpotify pic.twitter.com/hpOEZ8v9bl

TechCrunch independently verified that the Discover clips appear to be the same as those on Spotify’s Canvas. This feature replaces static album art with short animated videos and was introduced widely in 2019. With Discover, users can listen to new music and add it directly to their music. Loved songs playlist. A spokesperson for Spotify said TechCrunch:
At Spotify, we regularly run a number of tests to improve our user experience. Some of these tests end up paving the way for our broader user experience, and others are only for important learning. We have no further news to share at this time.
The statement does not confirm whether the feature will be rolled out globally and on other platforms or not. At the moment, it is apparently only available on the beta version of Spotify for iOS among an unknown number of testers.
